Description
"Abraham Lincoln of Springfield" - Bicentennial Birthday Print
This honorary bicentennial portrait of our 16th president was chosen as winner of the Lincoln Art Envelope Contest, Dec. 17, 2008. (http://www.lincoln200.net/envelope_art_final.asp) This painting commemorates Lincoln's 200th birthday and appears on special limited edition envelopes being sold to raise funds for the renovation of the historic Tinsley Building with its dry goods store and Lincoln-Herndon Law Office (also federal courtroom, court clerk's office, and judge's chambers for the United States district and circuit courts) on the Old Capitol Square in downtown Springfield, Illinois.
Acrylic on gessoed Strathmore 500 Series archival board. Image size is 8 x 10.5 inches.
Lincoln's face is derived from various portrait photos of Lincoln by Mathew Brady between 1830 & 1861. Historic buildings in the background painted from photos taken by this artist.
Happy 200th Birthday Mr. President!

Art is unquestionably one of the purest and highest elements in human happiness. It trains the mind through the eye, and the eye through the mind. As the sun colours flowers, so does art colour life. ― John Lubbock CONGRATULATIONS ON SALE!
